SIMAT has a well established and active Research and Development Centre, with members drawn from different departments. The Institution has well-equipped laboratories to cater to the needs of students and to nurture them towards research and developmental activities. Faculty members are encouraged to enhance their professional competence by participation in FDPs, STTPs, workshops, and conferences by providing duty leave and/ or financial support. Similarly, students are encouraged to participate in conferences, Project Exhibitions and other national level events. Industry visits and internships are arranged for students to acquaint with the real time industrial environment and to hone their professional Outlook.

Student groups with innovative engineering ideas are given encouragement on completion of their project works done as part of the academic curriculum, by providing space and support to be an entrepreneur. This will help students to practice the engineering ideas for the betterment of the society he/she belongs to. Emphasis is given for technical solutions and ideas that have a humanitarian aspect. An environment for collaborative and competitive learning has been developed by encouraging students to participate in competitions like e-Yantra and Smart India Hackathon. In addition to regular curricular framework, our students get exposure to advanced research laboratory facilities that are set up through MOUs with industries. By establishing these laboratories, our students are given enhanced opportunities to work on quality projects and to augment their practical learning in Instrumentation
